Growing for Connection

We recently installed a delightful kitchen garden for a young couple in Reynoldsburg. This client was very interested in growing her own food, but was feeling overwhelmed with how to get started.

She had seeds, a very well organized planting spreadsheet, and sources for medicinal herbs and other plants. It was impressive to say the least.

We found a great location right in their front yard, off of their front porch. We decided the area directly behind the garden would be great for medicinal herbs and perennial native and edible plants.

Before and After

During a coaching session, my client told me how gardening has felt somewhat emotional for her thus far. Unfortunately, she lost her dad recently. She explained to me that he loved being outside and she knows he really would have loved their kitchen garden.

She felt emotional when tending her garden because it reminded her of him. She also explained that growing up her family taught her how to grow and preserve certain things and she was starting to remember a lot of that stuff.

The garden was bringing up so many emotions and memories for her and it was so moving to hear this experience. I feel so honored that she shared this with me and my hope is that her kitchen garden continues to be a place where she can connect with her past and loved ones who are no longer with us.
